Tankens natt
/Night of Thought

2019

It is the small things that make up our lives. I use everyday objects in my imagery to reflect on its intrinsic value. The process is just as much of an interested inquisition as an disinterested play of thought. Thoughts need to be re-chewed and renewed. By reflecting upon these everyday objects perhaps the mind starts to reflect upon itself.

Night of Thought is a 3 minute long direct animation and was exhibited in 2019 as an installation in Oslo. The film was projected as a loop in the room against a double-sided screen. The physical film was looping in the ceiling.

The loop has the ability to disturb routine modes and stretch the fabric of daily life. “It offers a strange abrasive time that erodes the temporal ground of the common world, providing an occasion for the viewer to slip away from the experiential continuum of daily reality” (JosGuilford, One Hundred and One Sinkholes: Notes On The Film Loop).

The title of the work (Night of Thought/Tankens natt) is referring to the backside of thoughts and thinking, to its dreamlike quality. It is an open sentence that could be asking for what is hidden or forgotten. Looking for the eye that sees itself seeing.
