Touch (Eyes That Feel What Hands Can’t See)

2020

Touch is an experimental animation set out to investigate the tactile possibilities of analog film. It is also an experiment in finding a hand made method of adding color to black and white film using colored lamp filters in the printing process.

Film is what skin would be if it had the ability to reflect what it has been exposed to and project itself onto a screen. Show the fabric of everyday life in close ups. As a projection, the hands are no longer involved. Instead eyes become like sensory organs feeling what the hands no longer can see.

It was my own fascination for film as an organic medium that created Touch. The film is an attempt to push the viewer onto the surface of the image to contemplate a material presence. In extreme close up we see traces of touch where at some point something seem to appear.
